Mark the Historical Sold by Sandy Blair
From Wednesday, April 07 2010
To Wednesday, May 05 2010

Historical sales are, thankfully, on the rise. Let’s explore what separates a compelling historical submission from a mediocre one, how to catch the reader’s (editor/agent’s) attention from page one, what constitutes too much detail, what’s wrong with scant research, and how dialect, facts, introspection, subplots and villains can make or break a novel.

Course Outline:

1.) The Good, The Bad, and The Downright Ugly
2.) Capturing the readers attention on page one
3.) Details: They can make or break you
4.) When is enough, enough?
5.) It’s About the Romance
6.) Subplots
7.) Villains Are People, Too.

This is an interactive workshop so please have your WIP ready for critique.

Instructor:  Award-winning author Sandy Blair has slept in castles, dined with peerage, floated down Venetian canals, explored the great pyramids, lost her husband in an Egyptian ruin (she still denies being the one lost,) and fallen (gracefully) off a cruise ship.

Winner of RWA’s Golden Heart and The National Readers Choice Award for Best Paranormal Romance, the Write Touch Readers Award for Best Historical, the Golden Quill and Barclay awards for Best Novella and nominated for a 2005 RITA, Sandy has made Barnes and Nobles, Borders and Amazon.com’s bestseller lists by doing what she loves, writing about Scotland’s past.

Sandy, an active member in Dallas’ RWA chapter, has presented multiple programs at conferences across the country and on-line.
